It was fairly hectic in preparation for this year’s Springfest at Lake Wendouree.  Springfest encompasses over 450 businesses, community groups, schools and car clubs selling and displaying their wares on the shores of Lake Wendouree.  As one of the  recipients of the proceeds from this year’s event we agreed to help with a children’s activity called Children’s Wonderfest.  We had also asked and received permission to run a bbq on the day.  The activity we chose was to make wooden pencil cases in two different styles.  We had received generous donations of particle board from Eureka Office Furniture, nails from G.Gay & Co and the use of a large tent from Bartletts.  In the weeks prior we had precut and grooved all the materials required but on the day the people overseeing the making of the boxes had not been involved in the preparation, so a little bit of deft footwork was required before we were up and running.  These guys worked solidly from 10-4 even eating on the go.  Great effort guys!

Although the weather was at best inclement, the day turned out to be hugely successful.  We had children and parents queuing for 10 minutes ( how often would children wait this long?) but we managed to satisfy everyone.  Our bbq team was very busy and we also managed to sell some tickets for Rotary.  The reason we applied for funding from Springfest was to upgrade the wet area in our rec. room at the shed.  We plan to tile the floor, put in a sink, a continuous hot water unit, and fridge for the tea and coffee area.  Look forward to a further update on this in the new year.
