Farmers’ Market – Last Farmers Market in the Mall raised over $500 plus another $200 for marshalling. A good result and thanks to the regular!!! volunteers. Don’t have results of this week’s market at the Lake.
Community Market – Raised $251. – Workshop $180 and bbq $71. Al was on holiday so no scones! Only 1 external stall holder.
IGA Supermarket and Haintz Pharmacy – These two businesses support BECS by a token scheme (IGA) and a rebate on prescriptions (Haintz). Members and their families are encouraged to support these businesses. Both these businesses continue to add small amounts to our bank account.
New Members – We have had a number of new members join in recent days. Please make them welcome and get to know them. Many have interesting stories to tell. It is encouraging to see new members actively involved and taking the initiative in projects. A Health and Safety assessment has been developed by Ron L. This will continue to be rolled out and enhanced if required.
Sick List - Graeme M has had a stay in hospital, Graham M is away for three weeks and Ken P is still managing to be at the shed (including the market ) through sessions of treatment. Moyle B has had a visit to the dentist. We wish you all a speedy recovery. A few members are on holidays and some are going this month including overseas. Stay safe guys and don’t spend all the kid’s inheritance.
BBQ Helpers – Thank you to all who have helped on the bbq’s this month. We appreciate the regular volunteers but for newer members please put your hand up to help as this might enable someone else to have a week off. The bbq trailer is one of our most successful money making ventures and our good reputation has been gained through the hard work of this small group of volunteers. We also need volunteers for our monthly market. This is not a difficult job as it often only entails just keeping an eye on things. The bbq team are planning to set up a table and chairs for people to sit and eat and hopefully will be underway with the finer weather.
New BECS clothing – We have a new supply of shirts, jackets, hats etc. Please see Denis C if you are interested in ordering some of these items.
Christmas in July in August - Will be done and dusted by the time you read this. Hopefully everyone had a good night and got to meet a few new people.
Ute update – We have purchased an old trailer and before you say it is a pile of old rubbish, you are not looking at the finished product. So to save you having to eat humble pie, in my mind I can see it - signwritten, removable crate on top and the tipper working. We don’t say to Ron that’s just a bit of old tree you are putting on the lathe, well most of us don’t. So just let John and Doug and others work their magic.
Some more photos from the Euroa trip – 1 Euroa Mens Shed, 2 One of their projects, 3 Len C organising loading of lathe.
Wet Area upgrade – Thanks to John H who has finished the plastering. The switchboard should be moved this week, new plugs for fridges and hot water heater, hardwire the stove and tiling the floor. This is all part of funding from Springfest last year and thanks to Ballarat Rotary Club.
Workshop – Some of the workshop jobs have included restoring a wooden table, plaques for the light car club and more kid’s furniture making. In the metal area the guys were fixing a couple of broken components in the lathe and are now busy with the trailer. Some photos elsewhere in the mag.
Grass cutting – Thanks Ray for cutting the grass.
Visits - We have had a visit from Loreto Sociology students. Thanks for the donation of $100 and the box of chocolates. Steve Pope and John Cooper visited with some of the guys from the new Sebas/Delacombe Mens Shed. We wish them well in their endeavours. Bruce Roberts and Craig Coltman visited for lunch on a Thursday. Bruce has invited us to WIN tv for a visit, so we will try and arrange this in the near future.
Art Group – Last weekend the art group had a display at the Artisans festival at the Mining Exchange. More people are looking to join.
CGU Awards - We were unsuccessful in this years awards. A lot of work and we don’t neatly fit into the *not for profit* category as all the finalists are Government funded.
McCains Food Tasting – Will be from 21st August to 18th September on Thursday evenings. Please consider asking your family and friends as this is one of our major fund raising efforts which if fully attended brings in $3000. That’s a lot of sausages to cook guys to raise the same amount! 2 of the sessions are full and 1 partially full, but spaces still free in the later sessions. We also need reserves as some are on holidays during the five weeks. Please check the notice board.
Board changes - The AGM was last month. The changes are that Lynton R has been elected secretary and Glenn A to a general board position. We wish you well for this year. We thank John E and Paul T for nominating for board positions and encourage you to try again next time. We also thank Doug S who did not seek re-election. I wish to make special mention of Doug Smith and John Eagle. The other night I had a call from one of our members who was stuck at the station with a flat battery. This was a cold wet night and the closest person who I knew could help was Doug. Thanks Doug for a top effort. In working on the trailer, we found we needed to refill our acetylene bottle. John Eagle went to Bridges Wade and because of dealing with them in a previous job , he has arranged a 3 year rent free deal with Air Liquide the bottle supplier. A great effort John as this will benefit the shed into the future.
Last month in my years summary I was remiss in overlooking Glenn A for his work in maintaining and updating our website. Glenn has also volunteered to get a web page for Buninyong Men’s Shed and possibly a couple of others. He also attended the launch of Tech Savvy for Seniors at the Library on behalf of BECS.
Thanks to Brian B for his work in getting our end of financial year reports produced and also this month’s P&L and Balance Sheet.
Display boards for the Light Car Club. Some more of Neale’s creative Work. A one off gate. A table for Repair. A PHOTO FOR THE ARCHIVES .SNOW AT THE SHED. FRIDAY AUGUST 1 2014. Thanks Denis
